Our Story: Where It All Began

ThreshWorks founding team at the Ministry of Agriculture engineering yard in Yundum

Our journey started with a visit that changed everything. At the Ministry of Agriculture's Engineering Department in Yundum, we had the opportunity to observe existing rice threshing machines made in the country — but never used before.

What we saw was eye-opening. While these machines were built to support farmers, they were all constructed with poor-quality materials, inefficient conveyor systems, and experienced excessive vibration during operation.

These issues did more than affect the machines — they reduced efficiency, increased grain loss, and made operation difficult for farmers.

As engineering students, we couldn't ignore it. We began asking critical questions:

  • Why are these machines failing farmers?
  • How can we design something better?
  • What would a truly efficient, locally suitable threshing machine look like?

That moment marked the beginning of ThreshWorks. We set out to design a solution that addresses these real challenges — focusing on durability, efficient grain handling, and vibration control. Our goal is simple: to build a machine that works for farmers, not against them.

What started as an observation has now become a mission — to engineer practical solutions that improve agriculture in The Gambia. And this is only the beginning.
